need help we’re buying a foreclosed home. issue: new main and other drain pipes is exposed in the bsmt?

Ferdinand asked:

This home is perfect! or almost perfect. Homes in the surrounding area or in the same subd are sold. Except for this one. The outside looks awesome. backyard is great. Interior is great. roof is newer. walls have no holes. no missing doors or broken glass.
issue 1. No fridge. 2. the previous owner installed a new main drain pipe - pvc pipe that collects dirty water from sink in the kitcken, tub, toilet… It’s in one room in the bsmt. it’s about 4 inches radius. vertical from ceiling to flooring. the walls behind it are drywalled and painted. in the ceiling is drywalled. however collector pipes from the sink, tub, toiled are also exposed. they grew out of the drywalled ceiling into the main drain pipe. the rest of the area are drywalled.
It almost look like that the pipes are for decoration. they’re painted black. walls behind them are painted red. looks like they were done professionally though. no leaks. the room is fully finished!
I told my realtor that I could get a used fridge just so appraiser will have no issue with that. However what should I do with the drain pipes that are coming out of the ceiling and a main drain pipe standing like a decor in one of corner of the room in the bsmt. oh also the sump pump pipe and hole is sitting in another finished room next door.
We think the previous owner was a hispanic family and had the bsmt separated into rooms so people can sleep in there.

please advice.
we still like the house. but we just want to make sure that we can still get FHA loan. we got pre-approved for a FHA loan in VA.

thanks

It sounds like the previous owner either installed these pipes himself, or had a friend who know enough to get them in place, but they didn’t want to go to all the trouble of putting them in the ceiling. That would, of course, require taking down the drywall and then reinstalling new when the plumbing was done. If there are no leaks and the drainage works well, then it should be safe enough, maybe just an eyesore till you figure out a way to cover it up. Maybe try painting it the same color as the ceilings and walls where it is.

Foreclosures are sold “as is”. Get a professional home inspection. The inspector will be able to give you the answers. No one here, sitting at a computer, can, nor should.
