aylissay asked:
so im 18 and i need to think about jobs soon. i want to be able to have a job (maybe one on the side ) where i can work out of the house. i really like art and working with my hands (ie: cake decoration, making cards, jewelry, painting, crafty things). also when i have kids i want to stay home with them, but keep busy making money too. does anyone do anything like this?? anything in interior design?

You could start your own home-based business in direct sales. The Pampered Chef is part of the DSA (direct selling association) and has been around for 28 years. You would be your own boss, setting your own hours and scheduling shows when you want to. The income is great as well as the growth potential. For more info, email me at
In most areas, for baking, your cooking area will need to be certified - that would be the only draw back to that… My sister wanted to do it, went to school, etc… but the legalities of cooking out of the home were too much of a hassle. Your other ideas are good, but I would not look to do much of it online… sell at fairs, flea markets, bizarres, maybe create your own home parties….
Interior design is ok, but you will not be able to do that strictly from home. You’ll have to go to ‘client’s’ homes eventually.
Good ideas… get started now… no better time…
~best wishes to you

Given your age and lack of experience you could start very slowly with the interior design. This does require some education. Get yourself involved with a design company in your area or an independent designer. Call them up and offer to be thier work horse. Let them know you want to learn this kind of business, your young and if you are a hard worker let them know. I know in this day and age it’s all about taking the jobs where there is money, but do the design buiding on the side as a service to some hardworking designer that is good. You might find that you become valuable enough to be paid. Working as an apprentice is basically someone else paving your way into an industry you love. good luck!!
